Girls Guide Volunteer
Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest
Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Our comprehensive approach to whole girl development equips girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers and grow up healthy, educated, and independent. These positive outcomes are achieved through three core elements: people - trained staff and volunteers who build lasting, mentoring relationships; environment - girls-only, physically and emotionally safe, where there is a sisterhood of support, high expectations, and mutual respect; and programming - research-based, hands-on and minds-on, age-appropriate, meeting the needs of today’s girls. Informed by girls and their families, we also advocate for legislation and policies to increase opportunities for all girls and address the systemic barriers that impede girls’ success, particularly girls in low-income communities and girls of color. This is an exciting time for Girls Inc. of the Pacific Northwest. Over the past several years we have increased the number of girls served exponentially and as we look to the future, we are prioritizing program expansion efforts across Oregon and Washington so that more girls throughout the Pacific Northwest grow up strong, smart, and bold.
Girls Guide Volunteers make a significant impact on the lives of Girls Inc. girls, and equip girls to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers and to grow into healthy, educated and independent adults. Becoming a Girls Guide is the most meaningful commitment a person can make to girls in the Pacific Northwest, and the women who dedicate themselves to this role are key players in advancing the rights and opportunities of girls and young women, reducing and eliminating the barriers girls face, and reforming systems that impede their success. Our Girls Guides spend 90-120 minutes every week leading a girls group, delivering programming that will support girls to take risks, maintain healthy body image, and be safe in their world. Our Girls Guides develop trusting, mentoring relationships with girls. They are trained by Girls Inc. staff to deliver our research-based, proven curricula to help girls develop the confidence and self-esteem to access a bright and economically-independent future.
